Riding Lessons
Lessons take place in a fun and safe atmosphere in either our indoor arena, outdoor sand ring or grass ring. Instruction is available in English riding on our selected school horses and ponies, or on your own or leased horse. Riding school lessons are National Rider Level focused. Lessons on owned or leased horses are individually catered towards rider goals. Strong emphases on proper equitation is a focus in all lessons.
Arrival Time
For lessons riders must arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the lesson to catch, groom and tack up their horse. Those who are late for tacking up may lose their riding lesson time. It is the rider’s responsibility to have their horse ready and prepared for their lesson before the lesson time starts. Riders who need help with tacking or un-tacking will have help from the coach as part of their lesson time.
Equipment
All riders must wear their own approved ASTM/SEI helmets.
Riders must wear proper riding footwear – a hard-soled boot with a heel of 1.5”. No running shoes, platform boots, or open-toed shoe are allowed in the barn area. Please tie long hair back. Beginner riders should wear comfortable pants (jeans not recommended). Otherwise standard riding wear is expected. No baggy clothing.
Payment Policy
Monthly packages reserve your spot and must be purchased at the start of the month. Payment is due at the beginning of the month on or before the first lesson. If paying by the lesson or for a part month, payment is due before each lesson and single lesson rates apply here. It is the responsibility of the parent/rider to ensure that your lesson account is in good standing before any lessons occurs. NSF cheques will be charged $10.00.

Riders Responsibility
Horses must be put away cooled and without saddle, girth and bridle marks. Bridles are cleaned after every use. Making sure to sweep up and put tack, brushes and or other equipment back where it belongs.
If your horse is ready or being used directly after your lesson, it is expected that you will help other riders in your class.
Cancellation Policy and Make-up Lessons
If you are unable to make your lesson, we require at least 24 hours’ notice to book a make-up lesson in an existing group. The make-up lesson must be taken in the same month as the missed lesson and is limited to one make-up per month. Students who do not notify Hollow Hills with 24 hours in advance of their absence will not receive a make-up lesson. Please notify by phone message or text.
Bad weather cancelations will have guarantee make-up when cancelled by the coach.
If a month has 5 weeks: This week may be used for make-up lesson or may be considered a bonus lesson: Please note that this fifth lesson day may be cancelled at the coach’s discretion.
Lesson Structure
- Group (3-4 Students) – 1 hour
- Semi-Private (2 Riders) – 45 minutes
- Private (1 Rider) – 30 Minutes or 1 Hour
- Learn to ride (1 Rider) – 1 hour, horse care and riding
